Former Toms River Resident organizes 2nd Handmade Faire to be held in Medford

Medford, NJ, July 30, 2008  - Spring of 2008 brought the first 100% handcrafted Handmade Faire at the Lighthouse Center for Natural Resource Education in Waretown, NJ. It was a giant success, many of the shoppers commented that they had never seen such a large, unique display of quality art and craft.

Many visitors came for window-shopping, and left having completed all their holiday buying. They simply didn't realize until they arrived what a fantastic and unique opportunity it was to find so many exceptionally crafted gifts. Now that the customers know what to expect from the Handmade Faire, the organizers feel that the Handmade Faire has nowhere to go but up!  They have big plans for the future – the next event planned is the Handmade Faire: Halloween Edition, which will take place October 25, 2008 at Flying W Airport & Resort in Medford, NJ.

The Handmade Faire offers local and regional artisans and crafters an outlet to sell their goods to the public, as well as network with like-minded people and have a great time. With the presence of www.Etsy.com, a place to buy & sell all things handmade,  there has been an increase in the number of crafters and artisans that are multi talented, and very motivated to support, and not only live, but thrive on the "Buy Handmade" movement. Many of our vendors are also members of Etsy.com, specifically the regionally based street team EtsyNJ.

The Handmade Faire: Halloween edition is promising to be a great time.  The vendors are encouraged to wear Halloween or holiday themed flair or costumes. Buyers are encouraged to do the same if they wish. We are planning give-aways again for Handmade Faire shoppers and who knows what other fun ideas they have on the horizon for this great event. Though the last Handmade Faire's proceeds went to support the environment, this time, we are looking to give back to the local artist community and give a scholarship for art classes to a young, budding artisan. Details of the scholarship and application process will be available online at www.handmadefaire.com.

The Handmade Faire is the brainchild of Abigail Mylod-Galie, 26, and an artist who is originally from Toms River. Pola Galie, Abbie's mother in law who is also an artisan, and former councilwoman of Medford is the other half of this completely home grown event. Abbie has always been a fan of the DIY (do it yourself) life style, and learned early on that if you want something done right, you should do it yourself.  She grew tired of going to run of the mill, mediocre craft shows, sitting in a sea among flea market items, retail items, manufacturers' representatives, and wondering if there's anyone else that actually sells art or craft items, or if the term "Craft Show" was merely a ruse to lure shoppers. In the true essence of the Buy Handmade lifestyle, Abbie took things into her own hands and started her own art and craft show experience, which is now known as the Handmade Faire. Abbie says: "As an artist, I think I give the Handmade Faire a different approach than most art shows have.."  She added,  "I love the art community, I love being surrounded by fabulous art and artists, encouraging the handmade life style for others. Buying Handmade is something that I try to do, and encourage others to do as well!"

The Handmade Faire: Halloween Edition will take place Saturday, 10/25/08 at the Flying W Airport & Resort in Medford, NJ.  For additional information, vendor list (when posted) or vendor information, please us online at http://www.HandmadeFaire.com  email handmadefaire@gmail.com or call (609) 698-7231
